Fons Oerlemans (85 year young!) is a Belgian explorer, deep-sea diver, adventurer and inventor. But he cannot swim . In STORMKOP he works on his latest creations. During his creation you can see him at work and ask him unlimited questions. His workplace is anchored in the workshop activities of STORMKOP. A unique opportunity to meet a real inventor.
Grandpa Fons is our 'Godfather of adventure'. As a child he was already fascinated by technology and seafaring. At the age of 14 he built his first raft, but he became best known when he crossed the Atlantic Ocean from Morocco in 1974 with his raft 'The Last Generation'. He later converted an old steam boiler into a submarine and designed a balloon to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. The crossing in 1979 with 'The Last Generation' from Gran Canaria to Barbados, which he undertook together with his wife Kee Arens, rewarded Kee in the Guinness Book of Records. Until a few years ago, the two of them lived in a self-designed giant steel blue bottle. In September Fons' book 'The Last Adventurer' about their bottle trips, will be published in English by Medina Publishing. STORMKOP bought the bottle boat 'Message in a bottle' from Fons last year. He will of course remain the captain for life. With this purchase, STORMKOP has gained an extra floating workshop. An artist in residence place for all your wildest ideas! And you get all the adventures for free. Are you ready to cross the 7 oceans? We are !!!!
NB: You cannot register for this item, but during events at STORMKOP you can visit the workspace in which Fons is working continuously. Or find out more about his adventures on this documentary (in Dutch)
